Help Identify This Mystery Fossil Revealed with a Vaniman Sandblaster

Our fossil-hunting friend Morne Mamlambo down in New Zealand has a mystery on his hands.

Specifically, a mystery fossil. With a little help from his Vaniman Mobile Problast, he uncovered a significant portion of something he wasn’t able to identify…and so he put out a video.

Can you identify this fossil? (And can you spot the Vaniman sandblaster handpiece in here? Hint: look at 0:40, 1:26, 1:49, 2:44, and a special highlight at 4:25!)

The comments section over on YouTube is alight with ideas, but we haven’t seen the definitive conclusion yet.

Is it an icthyosaur bone? Is it an ancient turtle’s shoulder joint? Is it leftovers from a Miocene Epoch rib cook-off?

The world may never know…but then again, YouTube is full of surprises, and the right expert may come across this video! We’re not archaeologists here at Vaniman, so somebody else will have to help solve this mystery.
