Every golfer, from beginner to seasoned professional, has heard the name Titleist — even those who don’t golf probably know this brand. Their imprint on the world of sports and leisure cannot be overstated.
So when Vaniman had a chance to visit them down in Oceanside, of course we were happy to go.
Titleist is actually a longtime customer of ours, and like all Vaniman customers, we take the best care of them we can. If they’ve got a project and they need an engineer in person, an engineer goes. (And the guy who writes these blogs also goes.)
The last time we saw them was at the Titleist Tour Truck, a mobile fitting facility that goes to major golf tournaments to serve the players where they are. This time, it was at their permanent home in Oceanside, the Titleist Performance Institute, where players come to get custom golf club fittings and master their game — turning good golfers into great golfers, and turning great golfers into legends.
This location sits in an unassuming business park, so you can imagine our surprise when we rolled in and saw stretched out before us, invisible from the street, a vast green expanse of various lush golf settings and, in front of the first building, professionals engaged in swing tests and fittings under a beautiful blue Friday sky.

What goes on at the Titleist Performance Institute?
Out front on that sea of green, golfers are measured, monitored, analyzed, and educated. Titleists’s experts look at swing mechanics, body movement, and ball flight to dial in the right adjustments for clubs and equipment.

Inside, in the metal shop, the magic meets the real-world technology. Titleist’s technicians shape and grind clubs based on assessments and needs.
…And where there’s metal grinding, there’s metal dust.
Metal dust from grinding: a serious (and solvable) problem
Grinding golf clubs generates a surprising amount of fine metal dust.
Left unmanaged, that dust doesn’t just make a mess; it’s dangerous. Prolonged exposure to airborne metal particulates can damage the lungs and cause long-term (often permanent) respiratory problems. There’s no metal dust that’s safe to breathe in.
Beyond that, metal dust can also impact visibility and accuracy for technicians who need a clean, precise environment. Titleist allows zero room for error.
And beyond even that, there’s the matter of presentation. Titleist’s metal shop is as pristine and presentable as the rest of the facility. Rows of beautiful cherry-red cabinets above and below line each wall, corner to corner, looked over by a large high-def television screen and a large gleaming cast of their logo. It’s not a room for customers to necessarily hang out in, but it still has to carry the Titleist standard. Nobody wants dust piling up.
Our high-quality dust collection solution
The solution to dust is dust collection. Capture the dust at the source before it has a chance to float into the air (and into someone’s lungs). Conceptually, it’s very simple.
But not all dust collectors are created equal. And at the Titleist Performance Institute, not just any vacuum will do. The work happens fast, and the volume is heavy. This shop needs powerful suction to snag that metal dust at high speeds and keep it away from the machinery.
That’s why Titleist relies on dust collectors engineered specifically for demanding applications—like the Vaniman StoneVac lineup.
Our brushless motor models have a high-powered turbine with digital speed control and quick-responding components designed for large volumes of heavy materials like metal dust. These units offer digital speed control (ten settings) and automatically self-clean the HEPA filter cartridge every four hours of operating time. This keeps the airflow open and helps give those motors up to ten thousand hours of use. They’re the perfect solution for Titleist’s needs.

What Titleist loves about our machines
Titleist has been a customer for years, and their shops are equipped with several of our StoneVac series dust collectors. They return again and again for:
- Sleek, compact design — at only ten inches wide and twenty-four and a half inches tall, they’re surprisingly small for the amount of suction power they provide…and they fit very neatly in those gorgeous cabinets.
- Powerful performance — These workhorse dust collectors easily keep up with those large grinding wheels, pulling dust away before it becomes a problem.
- Adaptability — From shaping heads to fine finishing work, the StoneVac Brushless SC pairs with nearly any task the technicians are charged with.
- Ease of use — like all of Vaniman’s products, they’re designed to be easy to use and easy to maintain. This plug-and-play efficiency helps the Titleist team focus on their craft.
