Vaniman’s precision micro blasting tech just got a new best friend: thermoset acrylic plastic blasting media!
“Wait — sandblasting on an electronics board?”
That’s right. Conformal coating removal with a sandblaster is not as wild and crazy as it may sound. Our microabrasive sandblasters deliver extremely fine streams of delicate, tiny media — so small, it’s usually measured in millionths of a meter.
Micro blasting is a common method for removing that conformal coating for PCB repair or recycling. But even the finest material can backfire — conformal coating is put on electronics boards to protect the components, and so it does no good to damage the components when removing that coating.
Our ESD resistant sandblasters — the Master Problast 3 ESD and the Master Problast Titan ESD — produce a stream of ionized air into the cabinet to create a continuously conductive environment. This helps with preventing static discharge, which can damage the components of a printed circuit board. But the media you use also matters a great deal when it comes to preventing damage. Overly aggressive media can tear away the masking or damage parts.
That’s why we’re thrilled to announce a new product for the industry: VanAcrylic Plastic Sandblasting Media!

This thermoset acrylic plastic powder is extremely efficient at cutting away conformal coatings of a wide variety of types thanks to its roughness and angular shape. But it’s also extremely lightweight, and bounces harmlessly off electronic components. It’s so light and gentle, in fact, that it won’t even wear away the solder mask from the board.

Our microblasters offer precision streams fine enough to get around only your target area while keeping the components safe and sound. This new media pairs well with our ESD resistant blasters for electronics board repair, and comes in three different quantity options: a single tank refill, a 5-lb. box, or a 30-lb. box.
