The Right Micro Etcher For Orthodontist Michael J. Erickson DDS, MS

Team Erickson

Dr. Michael J. Erickson

– Orthodontist, Erickson Orthodontics Inc.

They have been around since 2004 and they specialize in Orthodontics and DentoFacial Orthopedics.

The Problem

As most of us know, braces are not only a pain for a patient, but without the proper tools they can be for an Orthodontist as well. When braces are assembled, each tooth has a separate bracket “glued” to it with an abrasive cement. With all glues, eventually the abrasive gives out, leaving a bracket covered in cement. There are several options at this point:

  1. Replace the bracket (expensive)
  2. Pick and scrap the abrasive off with a Scaler (doesn’t work the best)
  3. Use a micro etcher to blast the abrasive off (can be time consuming)

Before Dr. Erickson made the switch to Vaniman, he used a handheld micro etcher that was slow, had low horse power, and made a mess.

The Solution

Everyone knows time is money and there is no doubt that our micro etchers will be saving time. Dr. Erickson could have gone with a few options but here are two that fit his needs the best:

SandStorm Professional

  • Small cabinet
  • Single media tank
  • Built in dust collection system
  • Foot pedal control

SandStorm 2

  • Medium cabinet
  • Two media tanks
  • Foot pedal control

Both of these micro etchers are perfectly acceptable for the office and will yield the same results. Each micro etcher produces a high volume and flow of media and air to remove the abrasive from brackets in seconds. Imagine being able to blast 4 or 5 brackets in under a minute; that’s what our micro etchers do! What it boils down to is personal preference and Dr. Erickson chose the SandStorm 2 with the medium cabinet and two media tanks.

This is what Dr. Erickson had to say about his SandStorm 2:

“We love our SandStorm 2! In a fast paced orthodontic environment there is not time for low horse power micro etchers.  What used to take several minutes to clean an appliance or bracket now takes seconds with our SandStorm 2.  We placed it on a shelf in our sterilization room so it is close to the clinical area and it has been a home run.  Our staff love that it is quick and easy to use. It is so effective that I have been tempted to use it for auto part restoration…I have not yielded to that temptation. Excellent quality and performance. “

“Thank you Vaniman, for producing products that make it a pleasure to practice our art.”

Sincerely,

Michael J. Erickson D.D.S., M.S.
