Just because a part is small doesn’t mean it doesn’t require work.

For manufacturers dealing with small and medium-sized parts, processes like surface preparation, deburring, deflashing, and cleaning can be tougher than they sound. These processes require a balance of precision, cleanliness, and cost effectiveness.

Large industrial blasting systems are too much equipment for most applications, but blasting out in the open creates a mess with all that abrasive media and dust, which presents its own challenges to say the least.

But an enclosed microabrasive blasting setup solves the problem. Targeted blasting with a contained workspace fits more easily into most manufacturing environments.

Versatile Blasting for Manufacturing Applications

Microabrasive blasting works for a variety of manufacturing and finishing processes. Depending on the part, material, and abrasive media, it can be used to prepare surfaces for coating or bonding, remove small burrs from machined components, deflash molded parts, clean away oxidation or residue, and create a desired surface texture.

For companies processing smaller components, this gives engineers a versatile way to incorporate abrasive blasting without investing in a large-scale blasting system.

Room to Work with the Problast

The Vaniman Problast uses our largest resin blasting cabinet by volume, providing ample working space for small and medium-sized parts.

This blaster’s enclosed design gives operators plenty of room to position and manipulate components. And because it’s enclosed, it contains the media, debris, and dust.

It offers a large, well lit interior with a broad viewing window that latches, creating a sealed cabinet. The two sand tanks hold up to 4 lbs. of media each (1,000 mL). It handles just about any kind of blasting media from 60 to 360 grit (or 25 to 250 micron).

And for manufacturers looking for additional precision and finesse, the Master Problast offers Vaniman’s instant-off capability. Choosing between the two ultimately comes down to your parts, processes, and desired level of control.

Don’t Overlook Dust Collection

Dust collection and control is an important part of sandblasting. Abrasive media and material torn away from the workpiece need somewhere to go. Containing and capturing that debris helps maintain a cleaner and safer workspace while improving visibility inside the cabinet. An integrated sandblasting and dust collection setup is a very practical choice for production environments.

Our recommended dust collector is the Abrasive Vac. This unit is designed specifically for sandblasting media in industrial environments. It comes with our pre-filter cyclone Accumulator by default and a foot pedal start/stop switch for ease of use (so you don’t have to remove your hands from the sandblaster to activate it).

A Cost-Effective Alternative to Larger Blasting Systems

Not every application calls for a huge industrial blasting installation. By our estimates, roughly 90% of actual industrial sandblasting needs can be performed by a countertop Vaniman sandblaster.

Vaniman offers a much less expensive solution for manufacturers working with appropriately sized parts. Our equipment is also designed with straightforward maintenance and repair in mind, which helps reduce downtime and contributes to a lower overall cost of ownership.

Whether you’re preparing surfaces, removing burrs or flash, cleaning components, or refining their finish, the Problast and Master Problast provide spacious yet compact enclosed solutions for bringing controlled microabrasive blasting into your manufacturing process.
